Debra and Marj are speaking to people or couples about the importance of effective communication in building net worth.  Since money disputes are a leading cause of divorce, and since both parties are very negatively impaired after a divorce, it is financially quite important for couples to share their ideas and to communicate effectively with each other about their expenditures, their values, their dreams and goals.  That way, they can both contribute—psychologically and financially—to their achievement and financial success.

In their presentations, Debra and Marj discuss how the male and female brains are constructed differently, which sheds light on the differences in communication styles.  They will focus on encouraging heterosexual couples to capitalize on the female’s tendencies to multi-task, entertaining a host of issues and seemingly needing to understand all the pieces and how they fit together, versus the male’s tendency to laser focus on one or two issues or facts and quick-fix things, without taking the time to research to the extent that their female counterparts do.

While that last statement may be stereotypical, it is often true.

They do NOT speak exclusively to heterosexual couples, as they have vital information for same-sex couples and single people as well.

Marj teaches both partners communication skills, mirroring techniques, and listening and compromise abilities to achieve mutual goals as well as individual goals.  Debra adds money tips and historical perspective on financial markets and investing basics as well as some subjective advice on “how much is enough?”

And through all this incredibly valuable information, Marj and Debra inject humor and role playing which allows the participants to enjoy themselves as they learn and feel less threatened about a difficult subject.  Once people know substantive steps to take and are equipped with real-world tools, they will be well on their way to eradicating fears around money and talking about money!
